fvequals ("we," "our," or "us") operates the financial independence planning application available at fvequals.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using fvequals, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and optionally your name through our authentication provider Clerk. We do not store passwords directly — authentication is handled entirely by Clerk.

Financial Planning Data

To use the application, you voluntarily enter financial information including:

• Income sources and amounts
• Investment account balances (brokerage, 401(k), IRA, Roth IRA, HSA, pension, annuities)
• Monthly and annual budget estimates across spending categories
• State of residence, age, and tax filing status

This information is stored in our database (Convex) linked to your account and is used solely to generate your financial independence projections.

Payment Information

Subscription payments are processed by Polar. We do not collect or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details. Polar provides us with subscription status (active, trialing, canceled) associated with your account identifier.

Usage Data

We may collect basic usage information such as pages visited and features used for the purpose of improving the product. This data is aggregated and not linked to identifiable financial information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the fvequals application
• Generate personalized financial independence projections based on your inputs
• Authenticate your identity and manage your account
• Process subscription payments and manage your billing status
• Send transactional emails related to your account (password reset, subscription confirmation)
• Improve the application through aggregated usage analysis
• Respond to your support requests

We do not use your financial planning data for advertising, sell it to data brokers, or share it with any third party for marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

fvequals uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: The third-party services listed in Section 3, which process data on our behalf under contractual data protection obligations.
• Legal requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of fvequals, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you of any such change and your choices.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and using established cloud infrastructure providers (Convex, Vercel) with their own security certifications.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and financial planning data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription and your account remains inactive for 12 months, we may delete your data. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at the address below.

Aggregated, non-identifiable usage data may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information and account data.
• Portability: Request your financial planning data in a portable format.
• Opt-out: Opt out of any non-essential communications from us.

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).

8. Cookies and Tracking

fvequals uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

• Authentication cookies: Set by Clerk to maintain your login session. These are essential for the application to function and cannot be disabled.
• Analytics: We may use Vercel Analytics to collect aggregated, anonymized data about how users interact with the application. This data does not include your financial planning inputs.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. fvequals is a U.S.-focused application; European GDPR cookie consent requirements do not currently apply to our service.

9. Children's Privacy

fvequals is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending an email to the address associated with your account. Your continued use of fvequals after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
